To all:
You may or may not have heard that we will have another bargaining session this Friday at the Marriott Courtyard hotel on 10/17/08. As usual it will start at 10:00 but members are to be there at 09:00 to get ready and updated. We will see what we can get done.
We were told that UHW has settled with the CHW hospitals, which includes St Elizabeth's in Red Bluff. Hopefully this will bid well for us as we were under the assumption that Admin was stalling because of what has been going on with our local (UHW) and the international union (SEIU). I guess that contract negotiations were stalled with most of the other hospital systems up and down the state. So, just the fact that we have another bargaining date is a step forward. We hope that other members can come and get a first hand look at how the process is done.
Also, there will be a forum at the Best Western this Wednesday 10/15/08 sponsored by our local and another local where our city council candidates will have an opportunity to get their message and platform out to our members. From what I have heard, we will be able to field questions to the candidates. Again, we hope that union members and their families will come out to meet and hear our local city council candidates message. This will be a chance for the Union and its members to endorse our city council candidates – Andy Holcombe, Ann Schwab, Jim Walker, and Ali Sarsour – who have been there to help us in our fight to get a fair contact. If you have any questions please call Pat Alvarez at 624-4256 or Email her at palvarez@seiu-uhw.org. You can email me also, but I've told you all I know about it.
Hope to see you at the Best Western this Wednesday (5:45 pm to 8:00 pm) and at the Marriott Courtyard this Friday (9 am to around 5 pm) for bargaining. It's our union and we do ourselves a favor when we take part in the process.
Peter
